Why
Earthblog.net? Mankind has been developing all sorts
of better and faster means of communication, especially
in the past decade since the worldwide web has come
to exist. Today, the web is used to flash images
and words of everything from spacecraft landing
on one of the moons of Saturn to the latest beheadings
in Iraq.
On
the surface it seems like we might be getting it
all since nobody can really read all of the material
which is being published every hour on the internet.
There is so much material and variety of material
that it would be easy to assume that simply everything
is being memorialized on the web. Although this
is partly true, there is a problem.
The
problem is that the most prominent news websites
are owned and controlled by the same dominant media
corporations who essentially own the newspaper,
television and radio industries. These huge corporations
clearly do not cover certain types of news that
would bring pressure to bear upon either themselves
or governments in a way that might cause reaction
which would force them to have to change their methods
of operation.
Fortunately, there is an active alternative media
throughout the world whose dedicated reporters and
photographers do cover the sorts of things that
the dominant media refuses to. Unfortunately, most
people don’t know they exist or how to find
them. Earthblog.net has been created as the solution
to this problem. At first glance upon arriving at
our website the visitor will be presented with headlines
of stories which will generally only appear in alternative
media news sources.
The
importance of being better and more fully informed
cannot be overstated. What could have been more
important than having a truly informed American
electorate vote in the recent presidential elections?
An electorate who knew all of the candidates, their
platforms and the issues as a result of critical
interviews by the media would have resulted in fully
informed voters making decisions based on knowing
all of their options. Was this the case? We think
not.
Most
Americans don’t even know the names of the
candidates who were on the ballot and running for
President in 2004 let alone what they would do if
elected. Whose fault is this? What can be done about
it? We believe that the practical solution is very
simple. If the dominant media won’t report
all the things that are important, then just create
an easy and convenient way for people to get important
information from alternative media sources.
The content of Earthblog.net is directed at bringing
our visitors information from alternative sources
in the areas of art, science, music, technology,
travel, film, books, and politics. Anyone who regularly
reads the content found on Earthblog.net will find
themselves becoming far better informed than many
of their colleagues who continue to only read the
dominant media’s filtered selection of what’s
important.
We
find it incomprehensible that during the recent
debate of presidential candidates, that while two
candidates were debating live on television that
two more candidates were being arrested and taken
to jail while the dominant media stood mute and
chose not to report the incident. This occurrence
which could remind someone of the tactics of the
Stasi of former East Germany happened in the heartland
of America. We assure you that had Earthblog.net
existed then, we would have posted excellent alternative
media coverage of this meaningful event.
This
paucity of news coverage of the arrest of two legitimate
American Presidential candidates was perhaps the
catalyst to inspire the creation of Earthblog.net.
If this action which occurred in the presence of
the cameras and reporters from the dominant media
can go unpublished, then these folks can ignore
anything.
The
dominant media’s helicopters will still be
the best place to see the overturned truck on the
local highway which is blocking traffic They will
still be the best place to get information on that
just-kidnapped child. And they will still be where
it’s at for seeing the grieving faces of the
surviving relatives of the latest drive-by shooting.
But for those significant stories, which they choose
not to report, look to Earthblog.net to become better
informed. We welcome you to the start of a new era
in media coverage. GO BACK
