Bird Flu or Pharma-Marketing?
Possible Winners of an Epidemic |

Already by the beginning of last year we were surprised that German TV continuously reported about the supposedly dangerous bird flu virus in Asia. Slowly, slowly it moved into our own living rooms. One day, a dead duck fell from the sky and landed directly in the backyard of the penitentiary in Straubing, a sleepy little town in Bavaria. From that day, it was on. Cats have been abandoned by their hypochondriac owners and most chickens who enjoyed their just won freedom outside ended up inside again back in cages. Scientists have officially predicted a pandemic. |
Pandemic (Greek for all the people) means the cross-national or even a global outbreak of a disease. It's just strange that the 8,000 - 10,000 people in Germany who die according to a study of the Robert Koch Institute from "ordinary" influenza each year hardly find any interest by this same media. But as soon as TV shows pictures of two people who supposedly died of the bird flu virus in Asia - the whole world is trembling in fear of a global pestilence. |
Another puzzle is that all of the Asian and Turkish victims who were said to have died of the bird flu have been cremated immediately after the diagnosis. A supplementary check on the cause of death by independent Institutes has therefore been impossible. |
Accompanied by immense media hype, the bird flu finally reached Germany. On the Island of Rügen in the Nordic Sea infected Mute Swans have been found. Strangely enough, the Mute Swans stay in Germany over the winter. The travel of migratory birds had not even begun and not one "real" migratory bird has been found dead. So how did the Virus come to the tiny Island of Rügen?
On the neighbouring island of Riems on the other hand, scientists worked very intensively on serums against epizootics. Some people entertain suspicions that ducks and swans have been "accidentally" fed by the laboratory staff. |

The Minister of Consumer Protection Horst Seehofer made the statement: "This epidemic will accompany us here in Europe for many years." That gives room for the question from where Seehofer takes this information so shortly after the outbreak. Is he clear sighted or does he maybe know more that we suspect? |
In November 2005 US President Bush made the bird flu a priority and requested the purchase of 7.1 billion dollars worth of the influenza medication Tamiflu and other tools to fight the possible pandemic. Weird coincidence: Donald Rumsfeld is a majority shareholder and former chief executive of the American company Gilead Science which holds the rights on Tamiflu.
Meanwhile, over 180 pharmaceutical concerns worldwide are waiting to get a license for producing Tamiflu. Oddly enough, Tamiflu is known to be a relatively ineffective influenza medication with serious, sometimes deadly side effects (12 dead people and 32 cases of hallucinations, confusion and delirium just in Japan - Source: Arznei-Telegramm 11/05). |
After freaking everybody out with the whole bird flu hysteria, the WHO (where Bush has a major influence) and the German Government are already planning constrained immunizations (Johannes Löwer, Director of the Paul-Ehrlicher Institute in a medical magazine). And the Federal Government has already bought Tamiflu for 2.2 Million Euro and is supporting the Pharmaceutical Mafia for the further development of the serum with another 20 Million. |
One reason for the planned enforcement of vaccinations could be the Soccer World Championships that will start in June in Germany. Bush and Rumsfeld are counting the Dollar bills out of their lucrative sideline and the pharmaceutical concerns are happy about additional billions of dollars in profits. |
Oh, but the bird flu has more "advantages". The filthy rich Chicken-Barons in the European Union can smile as well: The planned ban on caging of animals will be reversed - and the way less lucrative free ranging might even be prohibited. |
In the middle ages the mighty were threatening the simple folk with purgatory - which they could only get out of by buying a letter of indulgence. Today they are threatening us with a Pandemic - and offer Tamiflu. |
