“A Vision In Which Books Are Burned”

The President Talks Straight with the American People
When you listen to the President read one of his speeches on television it’s easy to get the feeling that the truth is hidden in there somewhere. We are approaching a new year and we should consider something that Louisiana Senator Huey Long said in the era when Mussolini was making sure that the trains ran on time.
“Fascism will come to America in the name of anti-fascism’. I’m afraid, based on my own long experience, that fascism will come to America in the name of national security.”
As we enter 2006, one might consider the fact that we are held accountable if our dog bites someone. Shouldn’t we be equally accountable for the actions of our elected officials? Although the following “speech” is not actually “real” the message is clear. What’s not clear is what sort of year the new year will be. Shall we let it be the worst one yet from this administration?
History surely repeats itself. It’s hard to say whether this is a replay of 1933, 1936, or perhaps even 1939.
